Comments...
Well, have turned off the TypeKey requirement, so anyone who wants to can post... the net result of which is, of course, a huge flood of comment spam. So we have taken the odd step to moderate this... [pardon the pun] so first time posters will be auto-moderated.
Lots of things are just being flat-out rejected, so if you want to say anything about viagra, ciallis, poker etc. you're probably out of luck. :-)

You can now access the sultan ahmet camii [aka blue mosque] gallery.
When you've fixed the contact page nice people are able to tell you that things are broken, which is v. much appreciated :-)

Making contact...
Ok, so it was really stupid to tell people to use the contact form and not make sure that the silly thing actually worked. Some strange redirect/.htaccess things going on, but it should work now [i.e. it works for moi...]
The old news directory now points to
/archives/site_news/, as it should have for the last three months. RSS/RDF link also points to a live file.
Other miscellaneous fixes to come...

Moving, Part III
Well, after a bit of an up and down weekend I think things are beginning to settle down. Photo galleries are all moved [and download much faster...] and templates re-installed.
Apologies to the 240 of you who discovered that I'd forgotten to upload the stylesheet the photo galleries depend on. Muppet.

Well, not moved yet, but am about to change the DNS records so things should start to happen in the next couple of hours. Expect things to be rather wonky for the next day or two... not quite sure my new host has PHP configured properly. Ah well, we shall soon find out...!

Moving...
Just a quick heads up that I am about to move hosts, so things may be a bit disrupted over the next week. Apologies in advance.
All email is being redirected elsewhere, so I'm hoping that nothing will get lost in transition.
I will be running SpamAssassin on my new host, and some old email addresses will be dropped as they are now contaminated with computer-related spam which Eudora can't filter as junk.
The handy dandy contact form should, however, still work just fine. Hopefully. To those of you who have been caught in the spam trap because ghoulnet.com's servers are hopelessly misconfigured, my apologies.

more edinburgh galleries
three new galleries, canonmills and stockbridge at sunset and anfield. Got a new camera so several smaller galleries like broughton and gayfield square may appear as I test things out. Not sure I am at all happy about how pictures in bright sunlight turn out...

due to a noticeable increase in virus-ridden spam, much stricter server side email processing [and deleting] now occurs. on the off chance that something important has been deleted auto-magically by the server without me ever seeing it, you should use the contact form to email me directly if necessary/concerned.

reshuffle...
Well, after putting it off for many many many months [i.e. since I realised that the last time I did it I did rather, in hindsight, bugger things up...] all the image storage arrangements have been completely re-done... admittedly the new logic, such as it is, is still predicated on the fact that the photos are stored on a different server, but things are now once again logically arranged and I only have to think about image referencing for a minute or two now whenever I add anything.

well, we seem [not seem, have] gone blue and the old somewhat sterile white layout has been retired. apologies to those of you who might have seen things changing right before your very eyes, as it were, as the css got debugged in real time while I was testing things on a windows machine... speaking of which, the blue background is probably about 15% darker than it should be when viewed on a windows machine. still not decided how [if] I am going to deal with this.

yet more server problems
now that my regular host seems to have its act together, the ISP which stores all the images in the photo galleries is having problems and download times are very very very very very very very slow... and will probably be so for another week or two. crap.

meta data
a meta data system for images is finally being rolled out: images should now be followed by a relatively relevant description, and all photo pages will eventually have appropriate meta tags [keywords and descriptions].
this was a project some seven months in gestation, with the data extraction from almost a thousand static pages done in a weekend, thanks be to find, grep and sed.
this may even lead [one day, in the not-so-distant future] to reasonably accurate search results. possibly.

site gone
server crashed: account deleted, everything gone server-side. yaay.
fortunately most files and images were restored from backups: some however weren't, and so some files are out of date.
the primary loss are the .htaccess files, which weren't backed up and which will have to be recreated. there will be some settling in and the odd 404 error before everything's back to normal.

site redesign
a complete site redesign. backend has been completely rebuilt from scratch, and a modular publishing system has been developed. pages are no longer assembled locally, but dynamically from the server.
pages are now [semi-] intelligent and reflect their position in the site's hierarchy and now show appropriate related resources: this is most evident in the revamped photo galleries, where pages now show all main galleries, related subject galleries, and link to all other images in the same gallery.
